Privacy Policy

Kitabi (“we”, “the app”) is a personal library and lending app. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the control you have. The short version: your library is yours, it’s private by default, and we don’t sell your data.

What we collect

• Account. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email to create your account. We never see or store a password.
• Your library. The books you add, reading statuses, progress, ratings, reviews, private notes, personal tags, and lending records you create.
• Recommendations (opt-in). Only if you turn them on, your ratings are used to generate suggestions. This feature is off by default and can be turned off anytime.

What we don’t do

• We don’t sell or rent your data.
• We don’t show ads or track you across other apps and sites.
• Your profile, library, and reviews are private unless you explicitly choose to share them.

How it’s stored

Your data lives on your device first (offline-first) and syncs to our database, hosted on Supabase (PostgreSQL). Access is restricted to the Kitabi backend. Encrypted backups are kept to protect against data loss.

In-app promotions

Kitabi occasionally shows its own announcements inside the app — a featured book, a new feature. Which ones you see is decided on our server from your preferred languages and broad facts about your library (for example, how many books you’ve added), and we count when a promotion is shown, tapped, or dismissed — so we stop showing what you’ve dismissed and retire what nobody wants. These are first-party messages, not third-party advertising: no ad network is involved and nothing about you is shared with anyone. If a placement is ever sponsored, it is labelled as such. You can switch promotions off entirely in your Profile.

Sharing

Share cards you generate, and any book link you send, contain only what you choose to include. Reasoned recommendations are generated by a language-model provider from your ratings only when the feature is enabled; no personal identifiers are sent.

Your choices

• Export. Download your whole library as a CSV from the app anytime.
• Delete. Deleting your account from the app removes your account and library.
• Recommendations. Opt in or out whenever you like.
• Promotions. Switch off in-app promotions anytime from your Profile.

Children

Kitabi isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data.
